What this prompt does

Why it works

Reading only rules force Claude to report — not touch — your numbers, so it can borrow the Chrome window you're already logged into with no passwords. The three guards (wait for load, click through menus, name direction only when visible) each fix a failure that turned up in testing. Direction matters most — that's the part you act on, so it says so plainly rather than guessing.

Setup

  1. Switch on the Chrome connector

    In the Claude app: Settings, then Connectors, then turn on the Chrome one and install its add-on. Connectors are the list of outside tools Claude is allowed to reach. This one needs a paid plan. If it later asks permission for a particular website, allow that too.

  2. Fill in the two brackets

    Swap [DASHBOARD] and [WHAT I CARE ABOUT] for your own before you paste it. Those are the only two things the prompt needs from you.

  3. Practice on someone else's data first

    Google publishes a free demo Analytics account that anyone can add in two clicks and remove just as easily. Real dashboard, real numbers, nothing of yours at risk. Point the prompt at that until you trust it, then swap in your own.

  4. Run it once and read it properly

    Check the date range it reports against what is on your screen — they should match. And if it tells you it could read the size of a change but not the direction, that is the prompt working, not failing.

Before you schedule this one

This job needs a browser you are already signed into. If the schedule lands somewhere without one — a cloud machine with no Chrome and no Google login — it will fail every single time, quietly. Make Claude tell you where the scheduled run will happen before you switch it on, and check the first real run yourself. Scheduling is the one part of this job that has not been run end to end here.
