What is Winston AI?

Detective Winston AI inspecting the code

With plagiarism detection and readability scoring, Winston AI is a valuable tool for content creators, web publishers, bloggers, and teachers who value authentic, human-written writing.

Why Winston AI is a Game-Changer

Generative AI is amazing for content creators. But there’s a problem – plagiarism and authenticity. 🤔

So, what’s the solution? Use an AI detector to sniff out other AI tools!

Why choose Winston? Three reasons:

  • First, it’s easy to use.
  • Secondly, it’s built for content creators and educators who need a tool that works.
  • Lastly, Winston AI’s accuracy is off the charts! 📈 With over 99.9% detection accuracy.

For these reasons, the Winston AI content detector could be the perfect tool to identify even the best AI copywriting software. Let’s now discuss Winston AI’s affordability.

Winston AI Pricing

Winston AI Price Plans

The pricing model for the Winston AI detector platform is simple: three options – two paid plans and a 7-day free trial.

Free Trial

Are you new to Winston AI? Enjoy a 7-day free trial of most features. Test the tool and see if it meets your AI content detector needs.

If you like it, upgrade to a paid plan after the 7-day trial. No commitment, just peace of mind.

Advanced and Essential Plans

The free plan is okay for one-off tasks, but if you have a lot of articles to check or need to work in teams, you’ll want one of Winston AI’s two paid subscription plans.

The Advanced plan provides additional benefits, including team members and advanced plagiarism detection.

The Essential plan costs $12/month (annual payment) for up to 80,000 words of scanned content. The Advanced plan costs just $19/month ($228/yr) and allows up to 200,000 monthly checked words.

In-Depth Look at Winston AI Features

Winston AI has many features to help content writers and teachers detect AI text. Let’s see how these features identify AI-generated and plagiarized content.

AI Content Detection

The Winston dashboard

At the heart of Winston AI is its ability to tell if a body of text was created by a human or an AI model. Using Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning (ML), the tool can quickly predict the chances that a machine wrote the content.

It’s super easy to check text, whether handwritten or in an image. So, how does the user interface work? Let’s look at how to run a scan using Quick Scan.

Quick Scan

After logging in, you will see the Quick Scan button on the left side. Clicking it will take you to the page where you can place your text.

The minimum number of characters allowed is 600. You can also add the title (though it seems to have a problem remembering it) and the document’s author.

  1. Log in to the Winston AI dashboard.
  2. Click ‘Quick Scan‘ in the sidebar menu.
Quick scan menu option
  1. Copy & paste your text into the text box (+600 characters).
  2. Give your scan a recognizable Document Title and Author.
  3. Toggle on AI and/or Plagiarism buttons.
  4. Click ‘Run Scan‘.

A few seconds later, Winston will give you the results.

File Upload

File upload screen

You can upload files instead of entering text and scanning them. It supports various formats like docx, jpg, png, and tiff. For some reason, PDF uploads were unavailable at the time of writing. 🤷

File uploads help work with freelance writers to confirm the quality of their content quickly.

Teachers will also appreciate the file upload feature, which allows them to quickly upload assignment documents and run plagiarism and AI detection scans simultaneously.

Plagiarism Detection

plagiarism checker results on Winston AI

The plagiarism detection feature is as reliable as other well-known plagiarism checkers like Grammarly and Copyleaks.

What I love about this tool is that you can choose to run the plagiarism detection and AI checker simultaneously. This saves you so much time and makes sense.

Winston’s plagiarism tool can catch obvious copy-pasting and paraphrased content that might fool other AI detectors. It ensures your published work is unique and free from accidental plagiarism. 🚀

Optical Character Recognition (OCR)

OCR is the unsung hero of the Winston AI, especially for teachers and students working with handwritten assignments.

This nifty feature reads pictures of words, including handwriting. So, if you have a photo or a scanned page of text, Winston can understand it, read it, and check if it’s human content.

Multilingual Support

For creators and educators, being multilingual is a big deal. You want your message and impact to reach those who need it most, so speaking their language is a must.

The AI detector is already available in English, Spanish, French, and German, and more languages are being added.

Team Collaboration

Winston AI makes collaborating with your team to scan and verify content easy. Working as a team makes AI content detection more efficient and saves time for web publishers and teachers.

Printable PDF Reports

Shareable PDF reports are a great way to prove your work is unique and not produced entirely by AI writing assistants. You can easily print or share the PDF report with someone else.

1. Look for the ‘Report’ section on the scan results page.

2. Click ‘Generate Report

3. Wait a couple of seconds

4. Click ‘Download Report,’ Share, or regenerate.

AI Predictability Map

AI predictability map in Winston AI report

The color-coded predictability map is my favorite feature in any AI detector. It’s essential! The map uses colors to show which parts of the text might have been written by a robot.

Winston believes the text is ‘Likely AI-generated if it’s red.’ If it’s green, that portion of text is’ Unlikely AI-generated. ‘ This makes it easier to find and think about how original the writing is.

Readability Score

Readability score feature

How easy is your content to read? This feature gives a score that helps you see if the writing is easy or difficult to read and understand.

It’s a good eye test, but don’t fixate on it– not that important. Webfx has a long write-up on the Flesch-Kincaid Readability Score if you want to know more about it.

Integrations

You can seamlessly check for AI-generated text in your web browser by highlighting the text you want to check and right-clicking. There is a Google Chrome extension and plugins for other browsers, such as Opera and Microsoft Edge.

Google Chrome extension for Winston AI

I like this feature because it saves me a lot of time. I do not have to switch back and forth between my content editor and my AI detector when editing or checking articles online.

There is also an integration for Zapier so that you can expand Winston’s AI-checking abilities in a bunch of cool ways, making your workstream more efficient and automated.

Winston AI Accuracy

A content detection tool is only helpful if you can trust its accuracy. The Winston AI detection tool is accurate, as our simple tests showed.

The platform boasts an impressive accuracy rate, but we wanted to know how it performs in real life. So, we ran three simple tests to gauge Winston AI’s accuracy.

  • Test #1 – 100% AI-generated text. Can Winston detect its entirely generated content?
  • Test #2 – 100% Human written text. Let’s see if Winston gets it right or if there will be false positives.
  • Test #3 – 50:50 Hybrid content. Can the AI detector predict that it has mixed-generated content?

Our Test Results:

Test # 1 – as expected, Winston AI detected that the writing was entirely AI-written content.

Test 1 results for AI generated text

Test #2 – no surprises here. The AI detector didn’t flag any false positives and correctly predicted that it was human writing.

Test 2 results for human written text

You might wonder why I have a 95% human score instead of a 100%. There could be lots of reasons, one being that I use an AI tool to check my spelling (Grammarly), which possibly gets picked up by the AI detector.

Test #3 – This result needs to be more conclusive. It detected that the entire document was AI content and gave it a 0% Human Score– (who is wrong). Still, it highlighted quite accurately the portions it thought were human-written in the AI Prediction Map.

Test 3 for hybrid test that is 50% human and 50% ai generated

That could be confusing; however, reading the ‘How to interpret our results‘ page makes more sense. Here is the crucial part:

how to use the scan results

Keep in mind that this is a basic shotgun (non-scientific) test. If we did thorough experiments like the techies at Winston AI, I’m sure we’d achieve the same claimed accuracy rate – 99.8%!
